Leading the charge of a new generation of artists is one of the games most versatile producers, AirOH ! Hailing from Denver, Colorado, the aspiring DJ has been working hard to establish his name in the music industry. He has recently been making waves in the scene after releasing his debut EP ‘FWYH‘ (Fuck What You Heard) ! The three track EP features an arsenal of heavy hitting tracks including ‘Bandit‘, ‘EP‘ , and the title track ‘FWYH‘!
AirOH has focused heavily on defying and bending genres! He doesn’t allow a certain genre to dictate his style and he isn’t afraid to switch things up in order to take his career to new heights! This week, we had the chance to talk with AirOH about his new EP and his career to this point!
How did you come up with the name AirOH?
It was a High School nickname I got my freshman year and one day my friends told me that I should use it as my DJ name. So, we changed up the spelling and it just stuck!
What was your goal behind creating ‘FWYH’ and what does the release of this EP mean to you?
I was really looking to expand on my sound and just try to capture my style in some bass heavy music. This EP was made to showcase my main focus in a more trap and dub style. It is my first EP so it will be a mile marker on my journey as a producer and DJ.
Which track was the most fun for you to produce off ‘FWYH’?
I had the most fun producing “Bandit” I feel like it has a lot of elements used in multiple different genres and it all comes together in one track and really shows how I don’t want to be restricted by genres.
You’ve experimented with many genres of music! What other genres can we expect to hear from you in the future?
I’m really big on not letting genres dictate my production so I wanted to create this EP with my main focus of producing bass music. So, you can expect to hear a lot music featuring just that crazy sounds and a lot of bass! I have some future bass/trap music in the works with Institute, some heavy hitting trap with cMac, a Hard-trap tune I will be releasing next, and I will for sure be coming back with some Jungle Terror and Hardstyle!
What software do you use to produce?
I use Ableton, it is just so versatile and really gives me the best work flow. Some of the VSTs I love using are Serum, Massive, Sylenth1, and Spire!
What do you feel is distinct about your music and yourself as an artist?
I think what is most distinct about my music is that I’m always mixing it up and trying to do better. I feel as an artist I should always be pushing for more and not limit myself while being creative. To me that’s what electronic music is all about.
What do you feel has been the coolest moment in your career to this point?
Anytime I am able to stand on stage or in booth behind those CDJs and have a crowd just losing themselves in the music I play for them is the greatest feeling ever!
If you could collaborate with one artist, who would it be?
It’s so hard to pick just one but if I had to it would be Kayzo.
What are the biggest influences on your music?
I have been influenced by so many artists but some of my biggest influences are UFO!, Bro Safari, Zomboy, Getter, Ookay, Kayzo, Carnage, Flume, Porter Robinson, Skrillex, and so many more!
What can we expect from you in 2017?
I will be putting out music regularly and expect to see me at more shows. I have so much new music! I’ll have some collaboration EPs coming and tons of original music and mixes for sure! 2017 is going to be a great year for me!
If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
To have knowledge, just to be able to hold in all information that would help me out so much in life and my career!
